Come join us to celebrate Medway’s birthday this month. Medway will officially be 300 years old on the 25th of October. To honor this event, the Medway300 Committee has three events planned and is hoping you will participate. The month starts with a Civil War Encampment on October 5th and 6th, followed by the Taste of Medway on the 12th and the Medway 300th Anniversary Ball on the 26th.
The Civil War encampment will take place at the Medway High School fields all day, October 5 and 6. Take a walk back in history; view the battlefield, walk thru the camps, and talk to the participants dressed up in period costumes. Each day the confederate and union troops, including an artillery company, will stage an actual battle. View the living history with this trip back in time. And take the time to talk to Tom Ellis, who has just published a history of Medway’s participation in the Civil War.
The second annual “Taste of Medway” will be held at the Thayer Homestead on the 12th of October, from 3 to 6PM. It will include all the favorites from last year, plus additional restaurants and food suppliers. They will once again offer tastes of many delicious foods and beverages offered by their establishments. Last year was a huge success, so don’t miss it this year! The Medway300 Adirondack Chairs will be on display so you can add your bid to the silent auction list, with the chairs to be auctioned off at the Anniversary Ball on October 26th. Tickets may be purchased in advance at Town Hall, Charles River Bank, and Middlesex Bank, or at the event.
On October 25th, the Medway300 Committee and Friends of Choate Park will unite to present the annual Pumpkin Walk. There will be prizes and medals awarded to pumpkin carving entries in many categories. Start planning your most creative pumpkin entry today!!! Then carve it out and drop it off at the tennis courts on October 25 before 4PM. Then come back at 6PM to walk around the pond and view the outstanding creative efforts of our residents of all ages. This has been a Medway tradition for many years and we anticipate a great turnout of carvers and viewers alike.
The Medway300 Anniversary Ball will culminate the year’s celebrations on October 26 at Luciano’s Lake Pearl Ballroom, 299 Creek St., Wrentham. The entertainment goes on all evening, beginning with piano accompaniment during the cocktail hour from 6:30 to 7:30PM, followed by dinner and dancing to the Neal Perry Orchestra. Dinner is your choice of Prime Rib, Chicken Francese, or Pasta Primavera. In addition, we will be auctioning off the Medway300 Adirondack chairs, painted by many Medway artists, to the highest bidders in the ongoing silent auction. Ticket forms are available until October 9th at Town Hall, Shaw's, Anne's Market, Medway Garden Center, and the Senior Center. Tickets are $50/person. Tables of 8 or 10 are available. Send the completed forms to Medway300 Ball, 6 Coffee St., Medway. Tickets will be mailed a week or two before the ball. Hope to see you there!
